All About Bees with Beekeeper, George Bailey
from Bailey's Maple Syrup and Honey, Mansfield

Mr. Bailey will bring in an observation hive, bee clothes and smoker equipment and talk about how he gets honey to put into jars.

All About Moths and Butterflies with Ben Williams of Pomfret Center
Mr. Williams is a former Marine, former Board Chair of CT Audubon, retired High School Principal, has also been a naturalist all his life with a special interest in moths. Mr. Williams will bring in some of his collection and the instruments and equipment he uses to collect moths and to grow them for research at UConn. Do you know what moths eat? What is a moth? How is it different from a butterfly? What kind of moths are out this time of year? How big do moths |

July 16 , Wednesday, 5-6:30 p.m., at Moosup Pond. In case of heavy rain, at Aldrich Library. Call the library and listen to the message on where to go for the program if it is raining. For ages 6-12. All ages welcome.
Insects In and Around Moosup Pond with Grace Jacobson, Ragged Hill Woods, Environmental Program Director, Pomfret. Ms. Jacobson will bring enough equipment for everyone to collect their own insects. After collecting, there will be time to talk about the insects and identify what stage they are in and what they are. There will be ID charts and field guides to help. |

July 23 , Wednesday, 4-5 p.m., at Aldrich Library. Ages 7 and older. John Dudek, Jewett City. All ages welcome.
Bugs That Harm Homes and Bugs that Catch Fish with John Dudek, Jewett City.
With 45 years in the pest control business, Mr. Dudek has lots of funny stories to tell. Come and learn about cockroaches or those other bugs that can hurt the house. The program will conclude with a demonstration of how to make ty flys. Before our eyes he will create something that looks like an insect (a grasshopper, an ant, a beetle, a cricket, for example) to put on the fishing line and hopefully fool the fish. |

Dress as an Insect, Listen to Buggy Songs with Donald Bugman, Tolland.
Come dressed as an insect and enjoy some buggy food, buggy music and an insect parade around the outside of the library in this final program and the end of the Summer Reading Program. Remind mom to bring her camera! |
